TIGER STADIUM CLOSES DOWN

The Detroit Tigers stadium has been around for 88 baseball seasons. It opened its doors in 1912. Now, this week the last ballgame was played inside the park walls.

The last game in Tiger Stadium was the Detroit Tigers -vs- the Kansas City Royals. The Tigers won the game 8 - 2.

Every Detroit Tiger starting player wore a number of one of the all-time great Detroit Tiger players. Tiger center fielder Gabe Kapler wore no number to honor Ty Cobb. Karum Garcia wore No. 6 to honor Al Kaline and he smacked a two-run homerun while wearing that number.

Bud Selig, who is the Commissioner of Major League Baseball, was one of the 43,356 fans who were at the stadium to watch the game. Also, about 50 former players were part of the action after the game was over.

Starting next year, the Detroit Tigers will play their games in the new Comerica Park.
