US VICTORY AT THE RYDER CUP

The United States golf team pulled off a victory at The Ryder Cup that should go down in history!

Some people consider The Ryder Cup the olympics of golf, although it is only a competition between golfers from the United States and Europe. The tournament lasts for three days and is held every other year, switching each time between a location in the United States and a place in Europe.

This year the tournament was held in Brookline, Massachusetts, therefore the next time it will be held in Europe. Teams play against teams for the overall title and the winning team gets the glory of being called "The Ryder Cup Champions." This year, after two days of golf, the United States team was down by four points. No team in Ryder Cup history had ever come back from more than two points on the final day to win the title.

Each Ryder Cup team has a captain. The U.S. captain was Ben Crenshaw and for Europe it was Mark James. The U. S. Ryder Cup team members included the following great golfers: Tiger Woods, David Duvall, Justin Leonard, Payne Stewart, Tom Lehman, Jim Furyk, Hal Sutton, Steve Pate, Davis Love III, Jeff Maggert, Phil Mickelson, and Mark O'Meara to name a few. European players included Serio Garcia, Colin Montgomerie, Paul Lawrie, and Lee Westword.

The final score on Sunday afternoon was U.S. 14 ½ and Europe 13 ½! The crowd went crazy! The U.S. won the title and will hold the Cup for the next two years until the teams meet again. It was definitely a weekend full of fun and excitement!
