RADIO CITY MUSIC HALL

Radio City Music Hall is in the news so let's learn some more about it! Radio City Music Hall is located in Rockefeller Center in New York City. It is one of the world's most exciting theaters. Radio City is one of the largest indoor theaters in the world! It opened its doors on December 27, 1932 and has been welcoming people to enjoy the show ever since. In total, more than 300,000,000 people (that is 300 million people) have watched a show, concert or other event. Three hundred million is more than the population of the entire United States of America!

S.L. "Roxy" Rothafel had the first idea to build The Radio City Music Hall. It was the first building in the Rockefeller Center in New York City and quickly became known as "The Showplace of the Nation." Radio City Music Hall was made a New York City landmark in 1979, and a National Historic Landmark in 1987.

The Music Hall cost about $8 million dollars to build back in the early 1930s and the inside of it was planned by a man named Donald Deskey.

There is a huge organ inside Radio City! The total weight of the entire unit is five tons! It takes 11 rooms to hold the pipes of the organ and these pipes can be as tall as 32 feet.

In total, over two million people walk through Radio City's doors every year.

The Radio City Christmas Show is a big tradition for the Music Hall. This show stars the world famous Rockettes. The Christmas Show was first performed in 1933. Over one million people come and see the Christmas show every year!
