POKEMON PROBLEMS

School officials in some areas around the country are no longer letting the popular Pokemon cards on school grounds. For example, some school officials in New York, New Jersey, Washington, and New Hampshire do not allow Pokemon cards in school. The latest elementary school to ban Pokemon trading cards is Johnson School in Nahant, Massachusetts. Teachers are supposed to take away any cards that they find until the end of the school day.

Pokemon trading cards are based on the Japanese "Pocket monster" television show and game. There are about 150 Pokemon characters, which can be seen on the Pokemon trading cards. These characters each have special powers and abilities to help wipe out other creatures.

Here are a few examples of the most popular Pokemon critters:

1) Pikachu - the yellow "electric" Pokemon

2) Jigglypuff - the "normal" Pokemon with a purple head and cat feet and ears

3) Bulbasaur - the "grass/poison" Pokemon

Pokemon critters have their own television show called Pokemon which is on the air on Kids WB at 7:00am and 3:30pm eastern standard time (EST). Pokemon characters are also in the process of making a movie. The title will be, Pokemon the First Movie: Mewtwo Strikes Back. This movie is to be in theaters November 12, 1999.
