Character
education is beginning to grow in this country. It is based on the belief
that academic development of young children is based on a combination
of social, ethical, and emotional development. People who believe in
this type of education see schools as a partner with families to help
teach children good core values to foster development.
National
Schools of Character is a yearly awards program that honors certain
schools, grades kindergarten through high school, for outstanding work
to promote social, ethical, and academic development. The schools chosen
receive the national honor because they create safe and caring places
that encourage learning through classes, culture, and activities.
This program
is sponsored by the Character Education Partnership, (CEP), which is
a national nonprofit organization in Washington, D.C.
