BASEBALL PLAYOFFS CONTINUE

The baseball playoffs continued this week and the league champions were decided. Both the American League and the National League championship series were very exciting!

The American League Championship Series was between the Boston Red Sox and the New York Yankees. The second to last game in the series began when the daughter of baseball great Babe Ruth, Julia Ruth Stevens, threw the first pitch. Babe Ruth played for both the Red Sox and the Yankees. He first played for the Red Sox from 1914 through 1918. Then the Red Sox sold him to the Yankees where he played for 15 seasons!

The Yankees won this series in five games by a score of 4- 1. The final score of game 5 was Yankees 9 and Boston 1. The Yankees scored two runs in the first inning and that was all the runs they needed for the win.

The National League Series between the Atlanta Braves and the New York Mets was exciting baseball! This series lasted for six games. Five out of these six games were decided by one run and two of these games went into extra innings! The Atlanta Braves won the series by a score of 4 games to 2.

The New York Yankees will be very happy to defend their World Series Championship against the Atlanta Braves. The World Series is scheduled to begin in Atlanta on Saturday, October 23, 1999.
