Disaster Areas in New Hampshire

This past week, President Clinton stated that the state of New Hampshire is in the middle of a disaster because of tropical storm Floyd. Tropical storm Floyd hit certain areas of New Hampshire on September 16-18, 1999. The President called for federal aid (government money) to be given to help residents recover in addition to state and local efforts.

The counties that were hit most by the tropical storm include Belknap, Cheshire, and Grafton. Federal money is available to local governments in these areas to help repair or replace public buildings and to help reduce the effects of the disaster.

Damage surveys are still being done in other areas of New Hampshire. Further government money may be given to other counties if enough harm has been done.
