CHILDREN'S
ART CONTEST

The Children's
Literacy Program is having an art contest open to children all over
the nation! The contest is for kids, ages 6-14, and is called the "Kids
Helping Kids" Season's Greeting/Happy Holidays Art Competition.
The Children's
Literacy Program is a charity program that has started more than 50
schools in Sialkot, Pakistan. This program found a need for schools
in this area of the world because many school children in Sialkot were
not going to school, but rather were working to make soccer balls. Eighty
percent of the world's soccer balls are made in Sialkot, Pakistan.
Artwork
for the contest can be done with watercolors, crayons, pastels, or whatever
the child may choose. The themes for the art have to be "Happy New Year
or Holiday Season," "Season's Greetings," "Peace on Earth," or "Helping
Others Less Fortunate." Also, children may submit more than one piece
of art.
The winners'
art will be printed on greeting cards, which will be sold during the
upcoming holiday season to support the schools in the villages of Sialkot.
The artist's name and age will be on the back of the card along with
the slogan "Kids Helping Kids." The reason for the sale of these cards
will also be stated on the back of the card. The prizes are as follows:
First
Prize: $100.00
Second
and Third Prizes: $50.00
Fourth
through Twelfth Prizes: $25.00
Winners
also will get a medal and a plaque from "Kids Helping Kids."
All
art needs to be sent before January 15, 2000 to Children's Literacy
Program, 9254 Old Annapolis Rd., Columbia, MD, 21045. The winners will
be chosen by February 15, 2000.
