ALL-CENTURY
BASEBALL TEAM
The 20th
Century is quickly coming to an end and major league baseball named
the thirty men who were chosen as members of the All-Century Team.
The fans
actually voted for the players who made this All-Century Team. MasterCard
International sponsored the voting and the votes were collected from
July 13 - September 19, 1999.
Fans were
asked to pick two players at each infield position, six pitchers, two
catchers, and nine outfielders. A panel of experts added five players
to the team that they felt were overlooked by the fans.
Four players
of the 25 chosen by the fans are still actively playing baseball. In
total 18, of the players picked are still living.
Lou Gehrig
was the player who got most votes overall followed by Babe Ruth, Hank
Aaron, Ted Williams, and Willie Mays.
