PRESIDENT
SPEAKS ON IMPROVING SCHOOLS
President
Clinton spoke to the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards
(NTPTS) to address improving schools around the country.
The NTPTS
is a nonprofit, independent organization that sets high standards for
teachers to follow. Teachers who have a drive for professional growth
may participate in a voluntary national certification program offered
by the NTPTS that gives them clear standards of practice. Teachers can
use this certification to improve in their classroom.
President
Clinton recognized the role that teachers who are certified by the NTPTS
can play in helping to turn around low performing schools. He also stated
the need for extra money to go towards education for the following reasons:
1) to help lower class size, 2) to improve failing schools, 3) to improve
the quality of teaching, 4) to enlarge after school programs, and 5)
to prepare students for college.
President
Clinton will work with Congress to pass an education bill that will
take us into the 21st century.
