JAPANESE
JET ACCIDENT
On
Monday, November 22, 1999, a Japanese air force jet flew threw a power
line northwest of Tokyo. When the plane flew through the power line,
the line was torn in half and, in turn, cut off power to thousands of
homes and businesses. Also, this accident caused some train service
to stop for a short amount of time.
The Japanese
air force jet called a T - 33, crashed near a junior high school in
a dry riverbed and both crewmen flying the plane were killed. No one
was hurt on the ground near the school.
Up to 800,000
homes lost electricity in the area surrounding Tokyo for about three
hours because the jet ripped through a 275,000-volt power line that
transmitted electricity. The power was eventually restored.
