SEASON'S GREETINGS

The holiday season is quickly approaching us! The picture of the week gets us into the spirit of the holiday!

As the final holiday in the 20th century approaches, we feel it is important to talk about some holiday safety tips! The Red Cross has stated some holiday safety tips to help pinpoint ways to prevent potential dangerous situations that go along with decorating houses and trees and preparing for holiday parties.

About 600 fires are started each year by dried Christmas trees! This is very preventable and is addressed in the safety tips below. Read on for some of the Red Cross safety tips and have a safe holiday season!

1. Be careful with holiday candles - keep candles away from decorations or other items that may be flammable! Children, don't be alone in a room with a lit candle!

2. Test your tree trimmings - Use outdoor lights for outdoor decorations and indoor lights for indoor decorations. Do not overload outlets and always unplug lights when leaving home.

3. Keep Christmas trees fresh - Chose a fresh tree and place it in a secure stand. Also, keep trees away from excessive heat and give them plenty of water.

4. Inspect fireplaces and wood stoves - Have your chimney inspected by a professional and cleaned if necessary before you start using it. Use a sturdy screen in front of a burning fire. If you hang stockings on the fireplace mantel, don't actively use the fireplace to burn a fire.

5. Buckle up - People travel quite a bit during the holiday season - wear your seatbelt for safety!

6. Enroll in a First Aid & CPR course - kids, they have beginning First Aid classes if you are interested! We here at kidsnewsroom.com wish you and your family a safe and happy holiday season!
