FEDERICO ARELLANO At the age of 10, I won a publicity prize. I guess that was the beginning of a career devoted to communicate. and just to let others know what was happening. I studied Social Communications in Argentina, where I was born 24 years ago, but professional achievements led me to journalism. I am the Latin-American intern for the fall at Scripps Howard Foundation, representing the International Center for Journalists. I worked for several regional magazines in Argentina doing features and indepth travel stories, and ended up working for the local bureau of prisons (Servicio Penitenciario Bonerense), reporting on inmates’ lives. There I was responsible for a magazine that is distributed in governmental and political institutions. Some of my duties were to find recovered ex-convicts within the province to show how they were getting on with their new lives. Even though a business, journalism has the strange quality to make you a reality maker, and sometimes the media get to create different worlds, that are invisible to some people. Maybe that was what attracted me and guided me to the United States: the commitment to be a reality archeologist. |
